Positive thinking? Does it really matter? Well, in a nutshell, yup, it does and it matters a lot. The power of positive thinking can't be overstated--real positive thinking that is, we'll get to that in a moment.
What you're thinking, in other words where you're putting your attention, determines how you feel and that in turn determines how you're feeling--whether you're having the best of times or the worst--and that's the power of positive thinking. Think about it...
Think about it--you're 9 years old and you're out hiking in the back woods with your favorite older cousins. This is just the best because these are the greatest people in the world as far as you're concerned. So you're having a blast.
But now imagine, that somewhere along the line, these fantastic cousins veered off their course and got themselves totally lost. I mean TOTALLY lost.
So, you're lost. You have no choice over that piece. But let's say you have a choice over how this is going to play out with your cousins. Let's say option A...
Option A is that your cousins stay pretty calm (all things considered.) They just have a way of finding the adventure and the fun in it all while they try to find their way back to civilization.
Option B is that your cousins totally and completely panic. They get really scared. They start arguing about which way to go. They start talking about not enough food and water to last even a little bit longer. They blame you for having gotten lost in the first place. They go on and on about how now no one will find them. Well, you get the picture.
So, anyone for option B?
Nope, I didn't think so.
The power of positive thinking and the positive attitude it leads to does make a difference, a huge difference. It makes the difference between loving life and hating it. And that's not all...
Not only does it make a difference in the kind of time you're having right now, but it also affects everything that comes along down the pike. The better you feel right now, the better you're going to feel tomorrow and the next day and the next day. That's the power of positive thinking--it's cumulative, a bit like interest in the bank. At first it doesn't seem like much but if you just allow that interest to compound it adds up pretty fast.
Okay, okay. It's not quite that simple. We all have ups and downs. But it is that simple when you step back from your life and take a bird's eye view. If you maintain your positive thinking even when times aren't so great (read that one again!--seriously, that's a biggie,) then your life is going to get better and better.
Of course if you're having the worst time even when your life isn't so bad, you're going to continue having worse, worse and worser times. So really, we're talking about the power of thinking, it's up to you whether you tap into the power of positive thinking or the power of negative thinking. They're both powerful but they lead to very different outcomes.
There's a formula for tapping into the power of positive thinking. A formual? You're probably thinking I can't be serious, but I am. There's a formula that illustrates positive thinking to a tee. And here it is...
Once you get a handle on and are using the power of positive thinking across the board in your life, you're going to be a lot happier. To put it super, super simply, here it is:
POSITIVE THINKING + POSITIVE ATTITUDE + just a touch of ENERGY =
I'm not kidding. It's that simple. Once you put this formula to work in your own life you'll see exactly what I mean about the power of positive thinking. Now of course actually carrying this out in real life is a tad bit trickier to say the least!
Positive thinking is a habit and if you're going to tap into the power of positive thinking you need to cultivate this habit in a major way. When we're little we take on the "thinking habits" of those around us. If we grew up in a pretty positive family then our thinking's going to be pretty positive. And vice versa of course.
Sometimes what seems to be positive thinking isn't positive at all. And this is what I meant earlier about the power of positive thinking. It has to be real positive thinking--no substitutes here.
Positive thinking is something you can really feel. It can't be faked. Well it can but then you're not going to tap into the power of positive thinking if you're faking it.
You can feel real positive thinking in your bones. It's not just some light sugar coating, it's something you really mean.
Make it a habit to pepper some positive thoughts here and there throughout your day. Make it your business to find things every day that feel good--this could be a picture in a magazine that you particularly like, a flower in a park, a funny movie, a friend. It doesn't matter what it is, it just matters that you let yourself have the positive thought and that positive emotion that goes with it. Once you've got the thought and the attitude you've got the power!--of positive thinking that is.
Let the power of positive thinking grow exponentially and watch your happiness grow in direct proportion.
If you haven't been very positive then it's going to take some time to get this new habit going. But don't worry about that. Plant that positive thinking seed and tend to it, stay with it, work on it and before you know it it's going to blossom in a big way. The power of positive thinking expands as you stay with it, it because more potent the more you use it.
It also doesn't matter if you start with just a little positive thought. Little things add up, and they add up pretty quickly once you get going. What matters is that you get started. That you really turn your attention in this direction.
Once you start peppering a positive thought here and there you're going to find that you start noticing more and more things to feel positive about.
Energy begets energy. Positive thinking begets more positive thinking. Positive thinking leads to a positive attitude and that plugs you into the powerhouse of positive thinking.
As your positive thinking increases your happiness is going to increase too, and it's going to increase exponentially at that.
And that is the power of positive thinking.
Happy thoughts.
